How Seznam Email connects: IMAP and your Seznam password
Seznam serves IMAP at imap.seznam.cz on port 993 and SMTP at smtp.seznam.cz on port 465, both with implicit TLS rather than STARTTLS. You sign in with the full address, including the part after the at sign, and your normal Seznam password. There is nothing to enable first. Seznam's own help states that POP3 and IMAP are permanently active on a mailbox and cannot be switched off, which is unusual: most webmail providers make you find a toggle before a client can log in. The one thing that changes the password is two-factor authentication, dvoufázové ověření. Turn that on and the account password stops being accepted on IMAP, POP3, SMTP and CalDAV, and a separate Heslo pro aplikace takes over for those protocols only.

Verified 2026-08-31: imap.seznam.cz answered a TLS connection and identified itself as an IMAP server under that name. It advertises LOGIN, OAUTHBEARER, PLAIN, XOAUTH2 authentication.

Check whether two-factor is on in Seznam Účet
Sign in to your Seznam account and open Zabezpečení účtu (Account security). If Dvoufázové ověření is off, your ordinary Seznam password is the one to use and there is nothing else to do here. If it is on, find the Heslo pro aplikace (App password) row, click Nastavit (Set up), type a new password twice and click Uložit změny (Save changes). Seznam refuses a value identical to your login password.

What actually goes wrong with Seznam
Two-factor quietly retires your password for mail clients
Seznam documents this failure precisely: the first time a client tries to connect after you enable dvoufázové ověření, you get a message in the shape of Přihlášení k serveru imap.seznam.cz selhalo, and it reads like a typo rather than a policy. The fix is the Heslo pro aplikace row under Zabezpečení účtu. Two details catch people out. The app password must be different from your login password, and once you have set it you cannot delete it, only change it. Switching two-factor off again disables the app password and puts your ordinary account password back in charge.
There is no IMAP toggle to go looking for
The usual first move on a webmail provider is to hunt through settings for an enable IMAP switch. On Seznam that search is wasted: the help pages state that IMAP and POP3 are active on every mailbox permanently and cannot be disabled. The application settings screen at Nastavení, Více schránek, Nastavení přístupů pro aplikace only controls POP3 download behaviour such as Přes POP3 stahovat jen nepřečtené e-maily and Ponechat zprávy na serveru. So a rejected login on Seznam is always a credential question, never a disabled-protocol one.
Seznam does not advertise IDLE, so nothing is pushed
The IMAP server omits the IDLE capability, which means a client cannot hold a connection open and be told when mail arrives. It has to poll. For an agent this is a non-issue, because mcpemails opens a connection and fetches when your AI asks a question rather than sitting on a socket. It is worth knowing anyway, because it explains why a desktop client on a Seznam account notices new mail later than the webmail does, and why a tool that depends on IDLE will look broken here while working elsewhere.
Known limits with Seznam
- Seznam does not advertise SPECIAL-USE, so folders are matched by name rather than by role. On a Czech mailbox that means Doručená pošta, Odeslaná pošta, Koncepty and Koš. If you have renamed a folder, name it explicitly when you ask for a move.
- The SMTP server caps a message at 50 MB including encoded attachments, so a large file is refused at send time rather than trimmed.
Seznam and AI: common questions
Does Claude work with Seznam Email?
Not directly. Claude has no built-in Seznam connector and cannot open an IMAP connection by itself. Connecting an MCP server such as mcpemails to your seznam.cz or email.cz mailbox gives Claude read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize access to it, and the same connection works in Cursor and other MCP clients.
What are the Seznam IMAP and SMTP settings?
IMAP is imap.seznam.cz on port 993 with implicit TLS. SMTP is smtp.seznam.cz on port 465, also implicit TLS. The username is your full address including everything after the at sign, and if your mail program offers a Server requires authentication checkbox, tick it. Both hosts were confirmed from a live TLS connection.
Why is my Seznam password rejected in a mail client?
Almost always because two-factor authentication is on. Seznam stops accepting the account password on IMAP, POP3, SMTP and CalDAV once dvoufázové ověření is enabled, and expects a separate Heslo pro aplikace that you set yourself under Zabezpečení účtu. It cannot be the same string as your login password.
Does this work with an Email Profi mailbox on my own domain?
Yes. Email Profi mailboxes use the same Seznam hosts. Seznam is explicit that on Email Profi you must type the complete address into the username field, including the part after the at sign, rather than just the local part. The two-factor rule about app passwords applies the same way.
Is my Seznam mail stored on your servers?
No. Messages are fetched live from Seznam over IMAP for each request and passed to your AI client. Credentials are encrypted at rest and message bodies are not retained.
