Claude cannot reach a T-Online mailbox on its own. mcpemails is a hosted MCP server that connects it over IMAP at secureimap.t-online.de on port 993, authenticating with the separate Passwort für E-Mail-Programme that Telekom issues for mail clients rather than your Telekom login password, so Claude, Cursor or any MCP client can read, search, send and organize the mail. Telekom serves IMAP at secureimap.t-online.de on port 993 over implicit TLS, and SMTP submission at securesmtp.t-online.de on port 465. Both names sit in front of an IMAP proxy rather than a mailbox server you talk to directly, which explains several of the quirks below. The part almost everyone gets wrong is the credential. Telekom keeps two passwords on one account: the Telekom Login password, used for the Kundencenter and telekom.de, and a second Passwort für E-Mail-Programme, described in Telekom's own wording as being für das Verwenden eines E-Mail-Programms. Only the second one authenticates against secureimap.t-online.de. Telekom recommends the two never be the same, and on many accounts the mail-program password simply does not exist until somebody creates it.
Copy these into the connect form. mcpemails prefills them where it can, and retries the other standard transport if the first does not answer.

In the E-Mail Center at email.t-online.de, open Menü, then Einstellungen, then Passwörter in the left column. Under the heading E-Mail-Passwort, für das Verwenden eines E-Mail-Programms, choose E-Mail-Passwort ändern, enter the new password twice and save. The same credential is reachable from the Kundencenter under Profil, then Login-Daten und Passwörter, then weitere Passwörter. Set it even if you think you already have one: on many accounts it has never been created.
Choose IMAP / SMTP, enter the full address such as name@t-online.de, and paste the mail-program password. The Telekom hosts and ports are prefilled and were verified from a live TLS connection.

This is the single most common T-Online connection failure and it produces an ordinary authentication error with nothing in it to tell you why. Telekom splits the account into a login password for telekom.de and the Kundencenter, and a separate Passwort für E-Mail-Programme for IMAP, POP3 and SMTP. The mail server accepts only the second one. Telekom explicitly advises that the two should differ, so even setting them to the same string is not the intended fix; create the mail-program password, then use it in both the incoming and the outgoing side of the connection.
The capability banner Telekom returns is IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 QUOTA LITERAL+ NAMESPACE UIDPLUS IDLE SORT. There is no AUTH=PLAIN, no AUTH=LOGIN and no SASL-IR in it. In practice the server expects the plain IMAP LOGIN command rather than a SASL AUTHENTICATE exchange. Client libraries that enumerate advertised SASL mechanisms and refuse to proceed when the list is empty give up before they ever send credentials, which is why some IMAP tooling reports T-Online as unreachable while Thunderbird connects to the same mailbox without complaint. mcpemails handles the bare LOGIN path, so this one is already dealt with for you.
The server does not advertise the IMAP MOVE extension, so filing a message is performed as a copy, a flag update and an expunge rather than one atomic command. It also omits SPECIAL-USE, which means Sent, Drafts, Trash and Junk are identified by name and not by role. A T-Online mailbox normally names them Gesendet, Entwürfe, Papierkorb and Spam, so if an agent cannot find your archive or sent folder, name it in the instruction.
securesmtp.t-online.de announces a maximum message size of 52,428,800 bytes. That is the size of the whole encoded message, so base64 attachments count roughly a third larger than their size on disk. An agent asked to forward a large attachment will get a hard SMTP rejection rather than a slow send.
Not on its own. Claude has no built-in Telekom or T-Online connector. Pointing an MCP server such as mcpemails at the mailbox over IMAP gives Claude read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize access to it, and the same connection then works from Cursor, ChatGPT and other MCP clients.

Almost always because you entered the Telekom login password. Telekom issues a second credential, the Passwort für E-Mail-Programme, and only that one authenticates against the mail servers. Create or reset it in the E-Mail Center under Einstellungen, then Passwörter, or in the Kundencenter under Profil, then Login-Daten und Passwörter, then weitere Passwörter.

Any mailbox that lives in the Telekom E-Mail Center authenticates against the same secureimap.t-online.de and securesmtp.t-online.de hosts with the same mail-program password. What matters is that the mailbox is a Telekom E-Mail Center mailbox, not the text after the at sign.
