Claude cannot reach an Interia mailbox on its own. mcpemails is a hosted MCP server that connects it over IMAP at poczta.interia.pl on port 993, authenticating with your full address and your ordinary Interia password, so Claude, Cursor or any MCP client can read, search, send and organize the mail. Interia keeps the POP3 and IMAP channels closed until you set korzystam z programu pocztowego to TAK in your account parameters, and a mailbox with two-step login switched on cannot be used from any mail program at all. How Interia connects: one hostname, one switch, one password
Interia puts everything on a single name. IMAP is poczta.interia.pl on port 993 over implicit TLS, and SMTP submission is the same host on port 465, which surprises people used to a separate smtp. name. Interia's own configuration page tells you to type poczta.interia.pl into both the incoming and the outgoing server field. Authentication is your ordinary Interia password with the full address as the username, and that covers interia.pl, poczta.fm and the Interia hub domains alike. The one thing you must do first is open the channel: Interia disables POP3 and IMAP on an account until you declare that you use a mail program.

Switch on the mail-program channel in Interia
Sign in to your Interia mailbox in a browser and go to Ustawienia, then ustawienia główne, then the parametry tab. In the mail-program section, set korzystam z programu pocztowego to TAK and save. Until this is on, POP3 and IMAP are closed and the login is refused with nothing to indicate why.
Confirm two-step login is off for this mailbox
Interia's two-step login (logowanie dwuetapowe) and mail programs are mutually exclusive. Interia says so on the screen where you enable it: with two-step login on, the account cannot be used in a mail program. Interia issues no app password to work around it, so if the mailbox has it enabled you have a choice to make before you go further.

What actually goes wrong with Interia
Two-step login and mail programs cannot both be on, and there is no app password
This is the Interia failure that has no workaround. Interia's help for enabling logowanie dwuetapowe states plainly that once it is on, the account cannot be used in a mail program, and access is through the website and the official app only. Most providers solve this with an app-specific password. Interia does not issue one. So an Interia mailbox is either reachable by IMAP or protected by two-step login, and you have to pick. If you want the agent connected, that decision belongs to you and it is worth making deliberately rather than discovering it as a login error.
POP3 and IMAP are closed until you declare that you use a mail program
The switch is under Ustawienia, then ustawienia główne, then the parametry tab, phrased as korzystam z programu pocztowego with a TAK or NIE answer. It reads like a preference and behaves like a firewall. With it set to NIE, the server refuses the login before your password is ever evaluated, which is why people rotate credentials for an hour before finding the setting.
No SASL-IR, and clients that assume it get a bare BAD
Interia's banner advertises AUTH=PLAIN but not SASL-IR, so it rejects the one-step authentication that sends the credential along with the AUTHENTICATE command. Clients that assume SASL-IR get a BAD with no explanation, indistinguishable from a wrong password. mcpemails detects it and retries the two-step exchange, so this is already handled, but it explains why some IMAP tooling reports Interia as broken while Thunderbird connects fine.
Sending and receiving run on the same hostname, and only PLAIN is offered on IMAP
There is no smtp.interia.pl in Interia's documented configuration: outgoing mail goes to poczta.interia.pl on 465, the same name as IMAP. Separately, the IMAP side advertises AUTH=PLAIN and nothing else, with no AUTH=LOGIN. Libraries hard-wired to the LOGIN mechanism, which is common in tooling written against Exchange, fail at the authentication step. The SMTP side does accept both PLAIN and LOGIN, so the two halves of the same account can behave differently inside one client.
Known limits with Interia
- Interia does not advertise MOVE or SPECIAL-USE, so filing runs as copy plus flag plus expunge, and Sent, Drafts and Trash are matched by name. On a Polish mailbox those are usually Wysłane, Kopie robocze and Kosz, so name the folder if an agent cannot find it.
- Enabling two-step login on the Interia account disconnects the mailbox from every mail client, mcpemails included, and no app password exists to restore it.
Interia and AI: common questions
Does Claude work with Interia Poczta?
Not on its own. Claude has no built-in Interia connector. Pointing an MCP server such as mcpemails at the mailbox over IMAP gives Claude read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize access to it, and the same connection then works from Cursor, ChatGPT and other MCP clients.
What are the Interia IMAP and SMTP settings?
Both use the same hostname. IMAP is poczta.interia.pl on port 993 with SSL/TLS, and SMTP is poczta.interia.pl on port 465, also SSL/TLS, with authentication required. Log in with your complete address, including interia.pl, poczta.fm or your hub domain. The hosts were confirmed from a live TLS connection.
Why does Interia reject my password in a mail client?
Usually because the mail-program channel is off. Open Ustawienia, then ustawienia główne, then the parametry tab, and set korzystam z programu pocztowego to TAK. If that is already on, check whether two-step login is enabled on the account, because Interia blocks all mail-program access while it is.
Does Interia offer an app password?
No. Interia issues no application-specific passwords. Mail clients authenticate with the same password you use for the webmail. That also means there is no way to keep two-step login on and still connect a client, because the app password that other providers use to bridge that gap does not exist here.
Do poczta.fm addresses work the same way?
Yes. poczta.fm is an Interia mailbox and uses the same poczta.interia.pl hostname, the same ports and the same mail-program switch. Enter the address exactly as written, with the poczta.fm domain, as the username.
Is my Interia mail stored on your servers?
No. Messages are fetched live from Interia over IMAP for each request and handed to your AI client. Credentials are encrypted at rest and message bodies are not retained.
