Give your AI agent a real laposte.net inbox. Read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize mail over IMAP with your ordinary laposte.net password.
Claude cannot reach a laposte.net mailbox on its own. mcpemails is a hosted MCP server that connects it over IMAP at imap.laposte.net on port 993, authenticating with your full address and your ordinary laposte.net password, so Claude, Cursor or any MCP client can read, search, send and organize the mail. La Poste issues no app-specific password and there is no client-access toggle to find, but the mailbox accepts encrypted ports only and its outgoing size cap is unusually low. One inbox is free, forever.
La Poste serves IMAP at imap.laposte.net on port 993 over implicit TLS. For outgoing mail, La Poste's own help pages document smtp.laposte.net on port 587 with TLS; port 465 with implicit TLS answers on the same host and is what mcpemails prefills, because a single implicitly encrypted connection is simpler to keep alive from a server. Authentication is your ordinary laposte.net password with the full address as the username. There is no app password to generate and no autoriser les logiciels de messagerie switch to find, which makes laposte.net one of the more straightforward French mailboxes to connect. The friction is elsewhere: the server is deliberately minimal, and La Poste turned off every unencrypted protocol in one go, which is still stranding clients configured years ago.
Copy these into the connect form. mcpemails prefills them where it can, and retries the other standard transport if the first does not answer.
| Protocol | Server | Port | Security |
|---|---|---|---|
| IMAP (incoming) | imap.laposte.net | 993 | TLS (implicit) |
| SMTP (outgoing) | smtp.laposte.net | 465 | TLS (implicit) |
Verified 2026-08-31: imap.laposte.net answered a TLS connection and identified itself as an IMAP server under that name. It advertises PLAIN authentication.
Sign in with: Your full address, including the domain: prenom.nom@laposte.net.
Nine action-based MCP tools: send, reply, forward, schedule, and organize. Your agent finishes the job inside La Poste.
List, read and search across folders to find that invoice, summarize a thread, or pull the latest from a sender.
Compose and send real messages, reply in-thread, and forward, directly from your mailbox, not as a draft you finish by hand.
Queue a message to go out at the right time, so your agent can draft now and send on schedule.
Keep the inbox tidy: file mail into folders, flag what matters, archive the rest, or delete on request.

Sign in at laposte.net with the same address and password you plan to give mcpemails. This is worth thirty seconds because there is no separate mail credential to blame if it fails: if the webmail accepts it, the IMAP server will too.
In the laposte.net webmail, open Paramètres, then Sécurité. That is where two-factor authentication is switched on and off. La Poste's own documentation for laposte.net two-factor authentication describes a push confirmation to a paired mobile device and does not document any application-password mechanism for mail software, so know which state your account is in before you troubleshoot a refused login.
Choose IMAP / SMTP, enter the full address such as prenom.nom@laposte.net, and enter the password. The La Poste hosts and ports are prefilled and were verified from a live TLS connection. Then drop https://mcpemails.com/api/mcp into Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT, authorize, and your agent has the inbox.

smtp.laposte.net announces a maximum message size of 15,800,000 bytes. That is the encoded size of the whole message, and base64 inflates an attachment by roughly a third, so a 12 MB PDF is already too big to send. Ask an agent to forward a scanned document and you can get a hard SMTP rejection where the same message would go through Orange or Gmail without comment. If a send has to happen, put the file somewhere and send a link.
La Poste disabled all cleartext communication on that date. Clients still pointed at the old plain ports get an invalid command style error rather than anything about encryption, so a configuration that worked for a decade suddenly reads as a broken account. The only supported combinations now are IMAP on 993, POP on 995 and SMTP on 587, all with SSL or TLS 1.2 as a minimum. If you are migrating a client's settings across to mcpemails, do not carry the old ports over.
The laposte.net IMAP server does not advertise SASL-IR, so it rejects the one-step authentication that sends the credential along with the AUTHENTICATE command. A client that assumes SASL-IR gets a bare BAD with no explanation, which reads exactly like a wrong password. mcpemails detects that BAD and retries the two-step exchange, so it is handled for you, but it is why other IMAP tooling fails against laposte.net while working everywhere else.
The banner is about as short as IMAP banners get: * OK IMAP4 ready. There is no IDLE, so new mail is discovered by polling rather than pushed. There is no MOVE, so filing a message runs as a copy, a flag update and an expunge. And there is no SPECIAL-USE, so Sent, Drafts and Trash are matched by name, which on a laposte.net mailbox usually means Envoyés, Brouillons and Corbeille. Name the folder explicitly if an agent cannot find it.
Not on its own. Claude has no built-in La Poste connector. Pointing an MCP server such as mcpemails at the mailbox over IMAP gives Claude read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize access to it, and the same connection then works from Cursor, ChatGPT and other MCP clients.
IMAP is imap.laposte.net on port 993 with implicit TLS. For outgoing mail La Poste documents smtp.laposte.net on port 587 with TLS; port 465 with implicit TLS answers on the same host and is what mcpemails uses. Log in with your complete address and your laposte.net password. Both hosts were confirmed from a live TLS connection.
No. La Poste issues no app-specific passwords for laposte.net. Mail clients authenticate with the same password you use for the webmail, entered together with your full address. If that password is refused, check it in the webmail first, because there is no second credential that could be the problem.
Most often because it is still configured for an unencrypted port. La Poste switched off all cleartext protocols on 4 July 2023 and clients on the old ports get an invalid command error rather than a clear message. Move the account to IMAP on 993 or POP on 995 and SMTP on 587, all with SSL or TLS.
The SMTP server caps a message at roughly 15.8 MB including encoding overhead, which is small compared with most providers. A file over about 11 MB on disk will usually exceed it once encoded. The rejection happens at submission time, so nothing is queued or partially delivered.
No. Messages are fetched live from La Poste over IMAP for each request and handed to your AI client. Credentials are encrypted at rest and message bodies are not retained.
