Claude cannot reach an o2.pl mailbox on its own. mcpemails is a hosted MCP server that connects it over IMAP at poczta.o2.pl on port 993, so Claude, Cursor or any MCP client can read, search, send and organize the mail. o2.pl ships with mail-program access closed: you open it in the webmail under Opcje, on the IMAP/POP tab. How o2.pl connects: one host for both directions, plus a switch
o2.pl serves IMAP at poczta.o2.pl on port 993 over implicit TLS, and SMTP submission on the same hostname at port 465, which catches out anyone expecting a separate smtp. name. o2's own configuration page lists poczta.o2.pl for both directions with SSL on each and SMTP authentication required. The credential depends on how the account is secured. With ordinary single-factor login it is your normal o2 password. With two-step login enabled, o2 tells you not to use the browser password and instead to create a dedicated hasło do programu pocztowego, one per external client. Either way the username is the complete address.

Switch on IMAP in the o2 webmail
Sign in to your mailbox, click Opcje, open the IMAP/POP tab and enable IMAP, which o2 labels as the option that both downloads and sends messages (pobieraj i wysyłaj wiadomości). POP only downloads, so IMAP is the one you want. Until this is on, external clients are refused.
If two-step login is on, create a mail-program password
o2 documents that with two-factor authentication enabled you should not use the password you type in the browser. Instead you create a hasło do programu pocztowego, a dedicated password for each external client using IMAP or POP3. That is the value mcpemails needs. If two-step login is off, your ordinary account password works as it is.

What actually goes wrong with o2.pl
Two-step login does not lock you out, but it changes which password works
This is where o2.pl differs from its Polish neighbours. Interia simply blocks mail programs once two-step login is on. o2 keeps them working and issues a separate hasło do programu pocztowego instead, created per external client. The trap is that nothing tells you which regime you are in: with two-factor on, your browser password is silently the wrong credential, and the resulting authentication error looks the same as a typo. Check the account's login settings before you conclude the connection is broken.
IMAP is closed until you open it under Opcje, and POP is a different toggle
The IMAP/POP tab in Opcje has separate switches. o2 describes IMAP as pobieraj i wysyłaj wiadomości (fetch and send) and POP as pobieraj wiadomości (fetch only). Turning on POP does not open IMAP. An agent that can read but cannot file, or a client that connects on 995 and not 993, is usually this: the wrong one of the two was enabled.
No SASL-IR, so a client that assumes it gets an unexplained BAD
The o2 IMAP banner is minimal (* OK IMAP4 ready) and advertises AUTH=PLAIN without SASL-IR. Clients that send the credential in one step along with AUTHENTICATE are refused with a bare BAD that reads like bad credentials. mcpemails falls back to the two-step exchange automatically. It is worth knowing because it is the reason generic IMAP tooling sometimes reports o2.pl as unreachable when the account is perfectly fine.
MOVE works here, but folders are still matched by name
Unusually for this group of providers, o2.pl does advertise the IMAP MOVE extension, so filing a message is a single atomic command rather than copy plus flag plus expunge. What it does not advertise is SPECIAL-USE, so Sent, Drafts and Trash are identified by their names. A Polish o2 mailbox typically names them Wysłane, Robocze and Kosz, so if an agent cannot find a folder, name it explicitly rather than describing its role.
Known limits with o2.pl
- Because SPECIAL-USE is absent, an agent identifies Sent, Drafts and Trash by name. A mailbox whose folders were renamed needs the folder named in the instruction.
- o2's mail-program passwords are created per client. Rotating the account password does not invalidate them, so retire ones you stop using.
o2.pl and AI: common questions
Does Claude work with o2.pl mail?
Not on its own. Claude has no built-in o2.pl connector. Pointing an MCP server such as mcpemails at the mailbox over IMAP gives Claude read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize access to it, and the same connection then works from Cursor, ChatGPT and other MCP clients.
What are the o2.pl IMAP and SMTP settings?
Both directions use the same hostname. IMAP is poczta.o2.pl on port 993 with SSL, and SMTP is poczta.o2.pl on port 465, also SSL, with authentication required. The username is your complete address. The hosts and ports were confirmed from a live TLS connection and match what o2 publishes.
Why is my o2.pl password rejected in a mail client?
Two reasons, in this order. IMAP is not enabled on the mailbox, which you fix under Opcje on the IMAP/POP tab. Or the account has two-step login switched on, in which case o2 requires a dedicated hasło do programu pocztowego rather than the password you type in the browser.
Do I need a paid o2 plan for IMAP?
No. o2's own instructions for activating access for mail programs describe it as a setting on the mailbox rather than a plan feature, and they do not gate it behind a subscription. If your login is refused, work through the IMAP/POP toggle and the two-step login question before assuming a plan restriction.
Is o2.pl mail the same as WP.pl mail?
They are separate mailboxes with separate hostnames, even though both belong to the Wirtualna Polska group. An o2.pl address connects to poczta.o2.pl. Do not point an o2 account at a WP hostname or the reverse; use the address's own provider page and the host prefilled there.
Is my o2.pl mail stored on your servers?
No. Messages are fetched live from o2 over IMAP for each request and handed to your AI client. Credentials are encrypted at rest and message bodies are not retained.
