Claude cannot reach a Locaweb mailbox on its own. MCPEmails is a hosted MCP server that connects it over IMAP at email-ssl.com.br on port 993, authenticating with the full address and the mailbox password, so Claude, Cursor or any MCP client can read, search, send and organize that mail. Locaweb runs one shared host, email-ssl.com.br, for incoming and outgoing mail on every domain it hosts, which makes the settings simple. The rule to know is on the sending side: the account that authenticates on SMTP has to be the same address that appears as the sender, or Locaweb rejects the message. One inbox is free, forever.
How Locaweb connects: one shared host, and a sender that must match the login
Locaweb documents its mail service, sold as Email Locaweb, on a single host. IMAP is email-ssl.com.br on port 993 with SSL/TLS, and SMTP is the same email-ssl.com.br on port 465 with SSL/TLS, with the outgoing server set to require authentication. The guide also lists 143 and 587 unencrypted for old Outlook versions and says those may stop working; MCPEmails uses the encrypted pair. The username is the whole email address and the password is the one set on that mailbox. That host is shared across every domain Locaweb hosts, so the certificate it presents is for email-ssl.com.br rather than for your domain. The one rule Locaweb enforces that other hosts do not is on the sending side: the SMTP login must be the same account as the From address, and a mismatch is refused with 503 5.0.3 Client host rejected.

Verified 2026-11-04: email-ssl.com.br answered a TLS connection and identified itself as an IMAP server under that name. It advertises LOGIN, PLAIN authentication.

Use the mailbox password, not your Locaweb account login
IMAP authenticates against the password set on the individual email address in Locaweb's control panel, not against the password you use to sign in to Locaweb itself. If you do not know it, reset it on that address in the panel and use the new value.

What actually goes wrong with Locaweb
The host is email-ssl.com.br, not your domain, and that is on purpose
Locaweb serves every hosted domain from the same mail servers, and the TLS certificate those servers present is for email-ssl.com.br. Pointing a client at mail.suaempresa.com.br over TLS fails name validation, because your domain is not on that certificate. Use email-ssl.com.br for both IMAP and SMTP, as Locaweb's own guide does, and the certificate validates with no exception needed.
Send as the account you logged in with, or Locaweb refuses the message
Locaweb's guide states that the account authenticating on the outgoing server must be the same one used as the sender, and that a mismatch produces the error 503 5.0.3 Client host rejected. In practice that means you cannot log in as one mailbox and send as another address on the domain, even an alias of the same mailbox. MCPEmails sends from the address you connected, so the rule is satisfied as long as you connect each sending address as its own inbox.
No MOVE and no SPECIAL-USE, with Portuguese folder names
The Dovecot server behind email-ssl.com.br advertises IDLE but neither MOVE, UIDPLUS nor SPECIAL-USE. Filing a message runs as a copy, a flag update and an expunge rather than one command, and the sent, drafts and trash folders are identified by name rather than by a role the server declares. If an agent files something in the wrong place, name the folder in the instruction.
Autodiscover works only if the domain has the SRV record
Locaweb's guide says that when a mail client's automatic setup fails on a Locaweb-hosted domain, the fix is a DNS record named _autodiscover._tcp pointing at autodiscover.email.locaweb.com.br on port 443, which takes up to 48 hours to propagate. You do not need that record to connect here, because MCPEmails prefills the host, but it explains why a desktop client on the same domain may have found nothing on its own.
Known limits with Locaweb
- Because the server does not advertise MOVE, a move is not atomic. If a connection drops mid-operation a message can briefly exist in both folders.
- The SMTP server accepts messages up to about 50 MB. A forward carrying larger attachments is refused at send time.
- Locaweb refuses a send whose From address differs from the authenticated account. Each address you want to send from has to be connected as its own inbox.
Locaweb and AI: common questions
Does Claude work with Locaweb email?
Not on its own. Claude has no built-in Locaweb connector and cannot open an IMAP connection by itself. Connecting an MCP server such as MCPEmails to the mailbox over IMAP gives Claude read, search, send, reply, forward, schedule and organize access to it, and the same connection works from Cursor, ChatGPT and other MCP clients.
What are the Locaweb IMAP and SMTP settings?
IMAP is email-ssl.com.br on port 993 with SSL/TLS. SMTP is email-ssl.com.br on port 465 with SSL/TLS and authentication required. The username is your full email address and the password is the mailbox password. The host was confirmed from a live TLS connection on the date shown on this page.
Why does Locaweb reject my outgoing mail with 503 5.0.3?
Because the address you are sending from is not the account you authenticated with. Locaweb requires the SMTP login and the sender to be the same account. Connect the address you want to send from as its own inbox, with its own password.
Can I use mail.mydomain.com.br as the server?
Not over TLS. Locaweb's certificate covers email-ssl.com.br, not your domain, so a client pointed at your own name fails certificate validation. Use email-ssl.com.br for both IMAP and SMTP, which is what Locaweb documents.
Does Locaweb need an app password?
No. Locaweb has no app-specific password scheme. The password set on the mailbox in the control panel authenticates both IMAP and SMTP.
Is my Locaweb mail stored on your servers?
No. Messages are fetched live from Locaweb over IMAP for each request and passed to your AI client. Credentials are encrypted at rest and message bodies are not retained.
