Claude cannot reach an A2 Hosting mailbox on its own. mcpemails is a hosted MCP server that connects it over plain IMAP on port 993, using the mail host your own account is on rather than a shared a2hosting.com address, so Claude, Cursor or any MCP client can read, search, send and organize that mail. How A2 Hosting mail connects: your own server name, IMAP 993
A2 Hosting rebranded as hosting.com in April 2025, and the mail platform did not move with the name. Shared and reseller accounts still run cPanel, and mailboxes still answer IMAP on port 993 and SMTP on 465, with 587 available for STARTTLS. There is no single a2hosting.com mail server to point a client at, because every account sits on its own machine. The knowledge base gives two forms that both work: mail.yourdomain.com, built from your own domain, and the full server name, which looks like mi3-ss78.a2hosting.com on the original A2 fleet or sr10.supercp.com on the supercp fleet. For a TLS connection the server name is the one that matters, because the shared certificate covers the server and not your domain. Log in with the full email address and the password set on that mailbox in cPanel.

Read your real mail host out of cPanel
Sign in at hosting.com, open cPanel for the hosting account, and go to Email, then Email Accounts. Click Connect Devices on the row for the address you want. The Mail Client Manual Settings block prints the exact secure incoming host for your account, which will be the server name rather than your domain, alongside ports 993 and 465. Copy that host verbatim.
Use the mailbox password, not the panel password
IMAP authenticates against the password set on the email address itself. If you do not have it, click Manage next to the address in Email Accounts and set a new one. There is no separate app password to generate for A2 Hosting mail.

What actually goes wrong with A2 Hosting
The shared certificate names the A2 server, never your domain
mail.yourdomain.com usually resolves to the right machine, but the TLS handshake returns a certificate issued for the hosting.com server, not for your domain. A client that validates strictly rejects it, and the error reads like an attack rather than a config mistake. A2's own documentation is explicit about the remedy: for secure access, use the full server name in place of your domain name. Take it from Connect Devices, not from memory.
Two server-name families are live at once, and the rebrand renamed neither
Accounts on the original A2 fleet have hosts like mi3-ss78.a2hosting.com, where the leading token is the datacentre. Accounts on the other fleet look like sr10.supercp.com. The move to hosting.com did not rename either family, so an a2hosting.com hostname you wrote down years ago is very likely still correct, and a supercp.com one is not a phishing artefact. Neither can be derived from your domain, which is why guessing fails here more often than at hosts with one naming scheme.
There is no A2 app password, whatever the third-party guides say
Several popular walkthroughs tell you to generate an app password because two-factor authentication is enabled. That advice describes the cPanel and client-area login. IMAP and SMTP authenticate against the mailbox password directly, with no second factor and no app-password mechanism at all. If a mail login is refused, the mailbox password is genuinely wrong, so reset it in Email Accounts rather than hunting for a token that does not exist.
Known limits with A2 Hosting
- mcpemails works on the mailbox, not the hosting account. Aliases, forwarders, autoresponders and spam filters stay managed in cPanel and are not visible to your AI client.
- Reseller and VPS accounts can sit on a hostname A2 does not publish anywhere in the knowledge base. The Connect Devices panel inside that account's own cPanel is the only authoritative source for it.
A2 Hosting and AI: common questions
Does Claude work with A2 Hosting email?
Not directly. Claude has no built-in connector for cPanel mail hosts. Connecting an MCP server such as mcpemails to your A2 Hosting mailbox over IMAP gives Claude read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize access to it, using the same credentials any desktop mail client would use.
What are the A2 Hosting IMAP and SMTP settings?
IMAP is port 993 with implicit TLS and SMTP is port 465, with 587 available for STARTTLS. The host is specific to your account: either mail.yourdomain.com or the full server name such as mi3-ss78.a2hosting.com or sr10.supercp.com. A2 documents 143 and 25 or 2525 as the unencrypted equivalents, which you should not use.
Did the hosting.com rebrand change my email settings?
No. A2 Hosting became hosting.com in April 2025, and existing customers keep their plans, servers and hostnames. Your a2hosting.com or supercp.com mail server name still resolves and still presents the same certificate. Only the branding on the website and the client area changed.
Why is my A2 Hosting email password rejected?
Almost always because you used the cPanel or client-area password. IMAP checks the password set on the individual email address when it was created. Reset it from cPanel under Email Accounts by clicking Manage next to the address, then use that value. The username must be the whole address, not the part before the at sign.
Is my A2 Hosting mail stored on your servers?
No. Messages are fetched live from your A2 Hosting server over IMAP for each request and passed to your AI client. Credentials are encrypted at rest and message bodies are not retained.
