Claude cannot reach a Vodafone mailbox on its own. MCPEmails is a hosted MCP server that connects it over IMAP at imap.vodafonemail.de on port 993, authenticating with the separate E-Mail-/IMAP-Passwort rather than your MeinVodafone password, so Claude, Cursor or any MCP client can read, search, send and organize the mail. The same servers and the same rule apply to every Vodafone, Arcor, Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia address. If you have never chosen that e-mail password, no mail program has ever been able to log in to the mailbox, and the failure looks like a typo. One inbox is free, forever.
How Vodafone connects: IMAP and a second, separate password
Vodafone documents one set of servers for all of its mailboxes, including the former Arcor, Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia accounts: IMAP at imap.vodafonemail.de on port 993 with SSL (143 with TLS), and SMTP at smtp.vodafonemail.de on port 465 with SSL (25 or 587 with TLS). Vodafone marks IMAP as the recommended protocol and says that encryption has been mandatory since October 2024. The username is the full address. The part almost everyone gets wrong is the password. Vodafone's help says explicitly that the E-Mail-/IMAP-Passwort is not the same as the internet password you use for the MeinVodafone login. You choose it when the mailbox is set up, and you can change it in the mailbox at mail.vodafone.de under Einstellungen, Mein Konto, Passwort. Only that password opens imap.vodafonemail.de.

Verified 2026-11-04: imap.vodafonemail.de answered a TLS connection and identified itself as an IMAP server under that name. It advertises PLAIN authentication.

Set or look up the E-Mail-/IMAP-Passwort
Sign in to the mailbox at mail.vodafone.de with your Vodafone, Kabel or Arcor address. Open Einstellungen, then Mein Konto, then Passwort, and use Bearbeiten to set the e-mail password. If you cannot sign in, use Zugangsdaten vergessen under the login button. This password is separate from your MeinVodafone password, and Vodafone says so on the same page.

What actually goes wrong with Vodafone E-Mail
The MeinVodafone password is rejected, and that is by design
This is the most common Vodafone connection failure and it produces an ordinary authentication error with nothing in it to tell you why. Vodafone keeps the internet password for the MeinVodafone customer login apart from the E-Mail-/IMAP-Passwort for the mailbox, and only the second one authenticates on IMAP and SMTP. Set it in the mailbox under Einstellungen, Mein Konto, Passwort, then use it for both the incoming and the outgoing side of the connection.
Arcor, Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia addresses all live on vodafonemail.de
Vodafone's help says its settings apply to every Vodafone, Arcor, Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia e-mail account. The hostnames contain vodafonemail.de whatever your own address ends in, so an @arcor.de user still enters imap.vodafonemail.de and smtp.vodafonemail.de. Older guides that name other Arcor or Vodafone hosts describe systems that have since been merged into this one.
The IMAP server offers PLAIN only, and no IDLE, MOVE or SPECIAL-USE
The capability banner from imap.vodafonemail.de is short: IMAP4rev1 ID SASL-IR AUTH=PLAIN. There is no AUTH=LOGIN, so tooling hard-wired to the LOGIN mechanism fails at authentication even with the right password, and there is no IDLE, MOVE, UIDPLUS or SPECIAL-USE. In practice new mail is found by polling rather than pushed, filing a message runs as a copy, a flag update and an expunge, and the sent, drafts and trash folders are found by name. MCPEmails authenticates with PLAIN and handles the rest.
Sending is capped at 32 MB per message
smtp.vodafonemail.de announces a maximum message size of 33,554,432 bytes. That is the size of the whole encoded message, so base64 attachments count roughly a third larger than their size on disk. An agent asked to forward a large attachment will get a hard SMTP rejection rather than a slow send.
Known limits with Vodafone E-Mail
- Because the server has no MOVE support, a move is not atomic. If a connection drops mid-operation a message can briefly exist in both folders.
- There is no IDLE support, so mail is polled rather than pushed. Your agent sees a new message the next time it checks rather than the moment it arrives.
- The e-mail password is maintained separately from the MeinVodafone password. Changing one does not change the other, and changing the e-mail password disconnects the mailbox until you enter the new one.
Vodafone E-Mail and AI: common questions
Does Claude work with Vodafone or Arcor email?
Not on its own. Claude has no built-in Vodafone connector. Pointing an MCP server such as MCPEmails at the mailbox over IMAP gives Claude read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize access to it, and the same connection then works from Cursor, ChatGPT and other MCP clients.
What are the Vodafone IMAP and SMTP settings?
IMAP is imap.vodafonemail.de on port 993 with SSL. SMTP is smtp.vodafonemail.de on port 465 with SSL; Vodafone also lists 587 with TLS. Log in with your full address and the E-Mail-/IMAP-Passwort. Vodafone documents the same servers for Vodafone, Arcor, Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia addresses, and both hosts were confirmed from a live TLS connection.
Why is my Vodafone password rejected in an email program?
Almost always because you entered the MeinVodafone password. Vodafone keeps a separate E-Mail-/IMAP-Passwort for the mailbox, and only that one authenticates against the mail servers. Set or change it in the mailbox at mail.vodafone.de under Einstellungen, Mein Konto, Passwort, or use Zugangsdaten vergessen under the login button if you cannot sign in.
Does this work with arcor.de addresses?
Yes. Vodafone states that its settings apply to all Vodafone, Arcor, Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia e-mail accounts: imap.vodafonemail.de for IMAP and smtp.vodafonemail.de for SMTP, with the full address as the username and the e-mail password as the password.
Does Vodafone need an app password?
Not in the Gmail sense, but it does use a dedicated credential: the E-Mail-/IMAP-Passwort, which is separate from the MeinVodafone login. There is no per-app token to generate.
Is my Vodafone mail stored on your servers?
No. Messages are fetched live from Vodafone over IMAP for each request and handed to your AI client. Credentials are encrypted at rest and message bodies are not retained.
Can ChatGPT read my Vodafone E-Mail?
