Claude cannot reach NetEase 163 Mail on its own. mcpemails is a hosted MCP server that connects it over IMAP at imap.163.com on port 993, authenticating with the 16-character client authorization code (授权码) NetEase issues rather than your mailbox password. You have to switch on the client protocol in 163 Mail settings and pass an SMS check before the code is issued, and NetEase also blocks clients that do not identify themselves with the IMAP ID command. 163 Mail runs on NetEase's Coremail platform and serves IMAP at imap.163.com on port 993 over TLS, with SMTP at smtp.163.com on port 465. Two things have to be true before a client logs in. First, the client protocol has to be switched on in your mailbox settings, which produces a 16-character authorization code in uppercase letters that replaces your mailbox password everywhere a client asks for one. Second, the client has to send an IMAP ID command identifying itself before it authenticates: NetEase rejects clients that skip it with Unsafe Login, which is not a credentials problem at all. mcpemails does both.
Copy these into the connect form. mcpemails prefills them where it can, and retries the other standard transport if the first does not answer.

Sign in at mail.163.com, open 设置 (Settings) then 常规设置 (General settings), and choose POP3/SMTP/IMAP in the left sidebar. Switch IMAP/SMTP on. NetEase will suggest its own 邮箱大师 client first; click 继续开启 (continue enabling) to carry on.

NetEase requires third-party clients to announce themselves with the IMAP ID command from RFC 2971, carrying a name, version, vendor and support address, before they authenticate. A client that skips it is refused with Unsafe Login. Please contact kefu@188.com for help, and NetEase drops a warning message into the mailbox as well. Because it arrives right where a login failure would, most people conclude their authorization code is wrong and regenerate it, which changes nothing. mcpemails sends the ID handshake, so this one is already handled.
163's IMAP server lists AUTH=XOAUTH2 in its capabilities and nothing else, so a client that picks its authentication mechanism from the advertised list finds nothing it can use and gives up before it ever tries. The plain IMAP LOGIN command with your authorization code is what actually works on port 993. This is why some otherwise sensible IMAP libraries fail against 163 while connecting to everything else.
NetEase stores the code hashed, so the settings screen will never show it to you again. If you lose it, the only route is to add a new one from 设置 then POP3/SMTP/IMAP, or from the NetEase Mail Master app under 我, 邮箱管理, 第三方登录管理, 通用授权码. Your mailbox password is not a fallback here; once client protocols are on, the code is the credential.
NetEase runs 126.com, 188.com and yeah.net alongside 163.com on the same Coremail stack, with the same authorization code flow and the same IMAP ID requirement. The hostnames are not interchangeable. A name@126.com address authenticates against imap.126.com, not against imap.163.com, and pointing the wrong host at the wrong domain fails as an authentication error rather than as a routing one.
Not directly. Claude has no built-in 163 connector and cannot open an IMAP connection by itself. Connecting an MCP server such as mcpemails to your 163 mailbox gives Claude read, search, send, reply, forward, schedule and organize access, and the same connection works in Cursor and other MCP clients.

Because the client did not send the IMAP ID command identifying itself before authenticating. NetEase requires it of third-party clients and refuses the connection with that message otherwise. It has nothing to do with your password or your authorization code, and regenerating the code will not clear it.
It is the same NetEase platform with the same authorization code flow, but a different mailbox on different hostnames. A 126.com address connects at imap.126.com and smtp.126.com. If you hold both, connect them as two separate inboxes, each with its own code.
