Mail.ru + AI

Connect Mail.ru to Claude,
and Cursor, ChatGPT, any MCP client

Give your AI agent a real Mail.ru inbox in minutes. Read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize mail with a single app password, and use the same inbox in every MCP client, not just one.

Claude cannot reach Mail.ru on its own. mcpemails is a hosted MCP server that connects it over IMAP using an app password, so Claude, Cursor or any MCP client can read, search, send and organize that mail. Setup takes a couple of minutes and one inbox is free.

How Mail.ru connects: IMAP and an app password

Mail.ru connects over IMAP/SMTP using a password for external applications. The password you sign in to the website with will not work from a mail client. Create one in Mail.ru under Security, Passwords for external applications, then paste it into mcpemails with your Mail.ru address. Mail.ru wants a phone number on the account before it will issue one.

The exact Mail.ru IMAP and SMTP settings

Copy these into the connect form. mcpemails prefills them where it can, and retries the other standard transport if the first does not answer.

ProtocolServerPortSecurity
IMAP (incoming)imap.mail.ru993TLS (implicit)
SMTP (outgoing)smtp.mail.ru465TLS (implicit)

Verified 2026-08-31: imap.mail.ru answered a TLS connection and identified itself as an IMAP server under that name. It advertises PLAIN, XOAUTH2 authentication.

What your AI can do

A Mail.ru inbox your agent can actually use

Nine action-based MCP tools, not just drafts. Your agent finishes the job inside Mail.ru.

  1. 01Read

    Read & search mail

List, read and search across folders to find that invoice, summarize a thread, or pull the latest from a sender.

  2. 02Send

    Send, reply & forward

Compose and send real messages, reply in-thread, and forward, directly from your mailbox, not as a draft you finish by hand.

  3. 03Schedule

    Schedule for later

Queue a message to go out at the right time, so your agent can draft now and send on schedule.

  4. 04Organize

    Move, copy, flag, archive, delete

Keep the inbox tidy: file mail into folders, flag what matters, archive the rest, or delete on request.

Setup

Connect Mail.ru in four steps

From sign-up to first AI email in a couple of minutes.

01

Create a free account

Sign up for mcpemails, no card required. The free plan connects one inbox, forever.

02

Create a password for external applications

In Mail.ru, open Security and create a password for external applications. That is the password mcpemails needs, not the one you use on the website.

03

Paste it into mcpemails

Choose IMAP / SMTP, add your Mail.ru address, the hosts below and the password to connect the inbox securely.

04

Paste the MCP URL into your AI

Drop https://mcpemails.com/api/mcp into Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT, authorize, and your agent has the inbox.

Before you start

What actually goes wrong with Mail.ru

The website password has been blocked in mail clients since 2022

Mail.ru stopped accepting the ordinary account password in external applications, so every mail client now needs a dedicated password created under Security, then Passwords for external applications. This is not tied to two-factor authentication: it applies whether or not you use it, and there is no setting that turns it back off. The refusal comes back as a plain authentication error, which is why so many people spend an afternoon convinced they have mistyped something.

Mail.ru wants a confirmed phone number before it will issue one

Creating a password for external applications runs through Mail.ru's two-step security screens, and those require a phone number confirmed on the account. An account without one cannot get to the password screen at all, so add and verify the number first. Once created, the password is shown once and is tied to that single application, so generate a separate one rather than reusing an existing password from another client.

bk.ru, list.ru and inbox.ru are the same service, and the domain in the username matters

All four Mail.ru domains authenticate against the same imap.mail.ru host, so there is no separate hostname to look up. The username, however, is the complete address including the exact domain you registered on. Typing the @mail.ru form for an address that is really @bk.ru fails, and the error again looks like a wrong password rather than a wrong username.

No IDLE, no SPECIAL-USE, and no AUTH=LOGIN

Mail.ru's IMAP advertises MOVE, UIDPLUS and SASL-IR, so moves are atomic and authentication is one round trip. It does not advertise IDLE, so nothing is pushed to you and new mail is discovered by looking. It does not advertise SPECIAL-USE either, so Sent, Drafts, Spam and Trash are matched by name rather than by role. On a Russian-language mailbox those folders are called Отправленные, Черновики, Спам and Корзина, and an agent hunting for a folder called "Sent" will not find one. Name the folder explicitly and it works. Its authentication list is AUTH=PLAIN and AUTH=XOAUTH2 with no AUTH=LOGIN, so a client wired to the LOGIN mechanism fails to authenticate with a perfectly good password.

Known limits with Mail.ru

  • Mail.ru does not support IDLE, so new mail is found when your agent looks rather than pushed the moment it arrives.
  • Mail.ru's submission server announces a message ceiling of roughly 70 MB. Attachment reads through mcpemails are capped at 25 MB per request.
FAQ

Mail.ru and AI: common questions

Does Claude work with Mail.ru?

Not on its own. Claude has no built-in Mail.ru connector. Connecting an MCP server such as mcpemails to the mailbox over IMAP, using a password for external applications, gives Claude read, search, send, reply, schedule and organize access to it, and the same connection works from Cursor, ChatGPT and other MCP clients.

What are the Mail.ru IMAP and SMTP settings?

IMAP is imap.mail.ru on port 993 with implicit TLS. SMTP is smtp.mail.ru on port 465, also implicit TLS. The username is your complete address including its exact domain, and the password is a password for external applications rather than your website password. Both hosts were confirmed from a live TLS connection on the date shown on this page.

Why is my Mail.ru password rejected?

Because the password you sign in to the website with has been blocked in external applications since 2022. Create a password for external applications under Security in your Mail.ru account and use that instead. If you cannot reach that screen, the account is missing a confirmed phone number, which Mail.ru requires before it will issue one.

Do bk.ru, list.ru and inbox.ru addresses work?

Yes. They are the same service on the same servers and use the same password for external applications. Enter the full address with its real domain as the username, because the domain is part of the credential. There is no separate hostname for these domains: they all authenticate against imap.mail.ru and smtp.mail.ru.

Is my Mail.ru mail stored on your servers?

No. Messages are fetched live from Mail.ru over IMAP for each request and handed to your AI client. Credentials are encrypted at rest and message bodies are not retained. Deleting the password for external applications in your Mail.ru security settings ends the connection at their end immediately.
